Do the Chapter 13 payments have to be deducted from my wages or can I pay them directly myself?

In the Northern District of Illinois, the Bankruptcy Trustee prefers but does not require Chapter 13 payments to be made through direct deduction from your wages. Therefore, if you are able to make the payments yourself and are willing to purchase cashier's checks each month for each payment, you may be allowed to do so.

That having been said, it is wise to agree to a direct deduction from your wages so that there will be no possibility of succumbing to the temptation to pay short or pay late this very important monthly obligation.
