Discharges your personal responsibility for unsecured debt

The final stage of a bankruptcy is the "Order of Discharge." This Order is a permanent Court order that prevents your unsecured creditors from ever attempting to or collecting their debt from you. It also prevents secured creditors to whom you have surrendered securing property (not otherwise reaffirmed), from ever collecting against you personally (they may still collect the debt against the property - in rem - repossessing such and selling it to offset the underlying debt).
