Myth: My employer can fire me for filing bankruptcy

As a general rule, it is illegal for an employer to terminate your employment based on you having filed a petition in bankruptcy. There are exceptions for certain highly sensitive government and financial positions. Also, your employer is allowed, by contract, to make the filing of a bankruptcy a terminal condition of employment.
