Does my bankruptcy get reported in the newspaper?

Yes. Filing any legal action in either state or federal court is considered "public information" and is therefore available to anyone to review. The newspapers, not the Court, have decided that Chapter 7 petitions are newsworthy enough to publish a list of who in your community has filed for bankruptcy protection. Interestingly, those same newspapers decided long ago that Chapter 13 petitions are not so newsworthy.
