What do I tell my creditors when they call before I file bankruptcy? After I file?

Having retained a lawyer to prepare a petition in bankruptcy and actually having filed a petition in bankruptcy are two entirely different things. Telling your creditors you are "going" to file bankruptcy is quite frankly a waste of time. It is something every debt collector has heard more often than any other statement made about unpaid debt.

Under no circumstances should you give your creditors any information about our law firm or in any way encourage them to call here unless you have paid all of the required costs and fees and have completed the mandatory credit counseling course and the only thing remaining is the actual filing of your case.

Once you have filed a petition in bankruptcy tell your creditors your case number and offer them our firm's information so they can call to confirm the filing.
