Will My Employer Get Notified of My Bankruptcy?

Generally, your employer does not get notified of your bankruptcy through the court notification system. Your employer may become aware of your bankruptcy through the newspaper or, if necessary, through a letter from our office if your wages are currently being garnished and we need to take steps to stop the garnishment.

If you are filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, your employer may be notified of your bankruptcy if you elect to have the monthly payment to the Bankruptcy Trustee deducted from your wages. Every jurisdiction has its own local rules and some may require the payment to be deducted from your wages.
